Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed in France in the early nineteenth century by Abraham-Louis Breguet, carriage clocks were engineered for travellers requiring reliable timekeeping on journeys. Constructed with sturdy handles, heavy brass frames, and balance-spring escapements rather than pendulums, these portable timepieces remained popular throughout the Victorian era.

Traditional Victorian carriage clocks feature solid cast brass cases, thick bevelled glass panels on all four sides, and white enamel dials over copper plates. Movements were built using brass plates, steel arbors, and jewels for the balance wheel bearings.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces feature heavy solid brass cases, crisp bevelled glass, hand-sunk enamel dials without modern printed fonts, and platform escapements visible through top glass viewing windows. Stamped serial numbers, maker marks, or Made in France marks on the back movement plate also verify authenticity.

An antique carriage clock works well as an accent on a fireplace mantelpiece, within a library bookshelf styling arrangement, or atop a modern office desk. The warm tones of brass add historical contrast when paired against contemporary artwork or minimalist decor.

Dust the brass casing gently with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid using harsh chemical polishes that strip original patina. Mechanical movements require regular professional servicing every five years to clean and oil the gearing, and winding should be performed carefully using the correct sized key.
