Exquisite Oil on Canvas by Joaquín Luque Y Roselló C1900

1900 - 1920
Description

An exquisite oil on canvas by a very talented artist, Joaquín Luque Roselló ( Málaga , September 27, 1865 - Buenos Aires , January 23, 1932). This beautiful example has been owned by my clients family for many decades and is fresh to the market, a true masterpiece.

Joaquin Rosello began his artistic training at the School of Fine Arts in Malaga, where he was a student of Emilio Ocón y Rivas and José Villegas Cordero . In 1893 he obtained a scholarship to continue his studies in Rome . In 1909 he traveled to Argentina , settling in the city of Buenos Aires, where he was a drawing teacher at the National Academy of Buenos Aires, and remained in this country until his death in 1932.

At the National Exhibition of Fine Arts (Spain) in 1887 he won a third medal for his work Cesar Borgia renouncing the cathedral purple before Pope Borgia , in 1893 he won the gold medal at the International Exhibition in Vienna and in 1901 he won first prize at the Berlin exhibition with a canvas entitled Salve Regina . He also exhibited on several occasions in the art shows of the Witcomb Salon in Buenos Aires organized by the Catalan dealer José Artal and the painter José Pinelo . His works Odalisca , Salve Regina and Gente de manzanilla can be seen in the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Argentina)

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Rococo Revival painting, popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, depicts idealised 18th-century aristocratic life, characterised by opulent interiors, vibrant colour palettes, and lighthearted social gatherings.

Artists around 1900 typically painted with oil-based pigments on stretched linen or cotton canvas, housing the completed work within moulded wooden frames finished with metal leaf gilding.

Authentic paintings from circa 1900 display period-appropriate craquelure across the paint surface, natural ageing and oxidisation on the canvas reverse, original wooden stretchers, and documented artist signatures.

Positioning a large framed canvas above a fireplace mantelpiece or sideboard creates a striking focal point, particularly when contrasted against minimalist modern furnishings and neutral wall tones.

Maintain the surface by dusting gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding liquid cleaners, keeping the canvas away from direct sunlight and radiators, and consulting a professional restorer for conservational cleaning.
