Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sovereign cases were introduced in the nineteenth century as secure pocket holders for British gold sovereigns and half-sovereigns. Designed with interior spring-loaded platforms, they protected high-value coins from wear, theft, and accidental loss while traveling.

Authentic sovereign cases were primarily crafted from sterling silver or solid gold, featuring internal steel springs and fitted brass or silver push plates. External surfaces were commonly hand-engraved with scrollwork, leaf motifs, and central shield cartouches intended for initials.

Authentic British sterling silver cases bear clear assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant mark, a date letter, and a silversmith makers mark. The interior spring mechanism should retain tension, and the push-button catch should operate smoothly.

In modern styling, these cases are frequently repurposed as decorative pendant lockets on heavy silver neck chains or attached to pocket watch Albert chains. They are also collected and displayed in glass-topped pocket watch frames or antique shadow boxes.

Clean silver sovereign cases using a soft, non-abrasive silver polishing cloth to maintain the luster without removing intentional dark oxidisation in the engraved recessed areas. Avoid immersing the item in liquid chemical dips, as moisture can damage the interior steel spring.
