Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A breakfront wardrobe is a large freestanding clothes cabinet characterised by a central section that juts forward beyond the two flanking side sections. Designed during the nineteenth century, these pieces provided comprehensive clothes storage, combining hanging sections with internal drawers or linen slides.

Victorian cabinets were primarily constructed using solid pine or oak carcases covered with high-grade flame mahogany veneers. Doors were constructed using mortise and tenon joinery, topped with hand-carved mouldings and heavy cornices.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawers, original brass drop handles or locks, heavy timber construction, and natural irregular patination on the mahogany surface. The reverse panels usually show hand-sawn softwood backing boards.

A large breakfront wardrobe serves as a focal piece in a spacious master bedroom or dressing room. Neutral wall paint contrasts against the dark mahogany timber, while minimal modern soft furnishings help balance the substantial visual weight of the cabinet.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and modern central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting or splitting. Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-quality beeswax twice a year to maintain the protective patination.
