Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pier mirror is a tall, narrow mirror designed to hang on the wall space between windows, known architecturally as a pier, intended to reflect natural light into room interiors.

These mirrors are typically crafted from wood coated in gesso and decorated with gold leaf gilding, combined with verre eglomise, a process of applying metal leaf and painted designs to the reverse side of glass.

Authentic period examples feature hand-carved wood framing, subtle oxidisation or foxing to the silvering on the glass plate, and natural wear exposing the underlying red or grey bole beneath the gilded surface.

Pier mirrors are frequently installed in narrow hallways, positioned above console tables, or hung directly opposite windows to enhance vertical height and maximize ambient illumination.

Care involves lightly dusting the carved gilded frame with a dry soft brush or feather duster, avoiding liquids or abrasive polishes that could lift the gold leaf or damage reverse-gilded glass panels.
