Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 18th-century Britain, a dumbwaiter is a multi-tiered stand designed to hold side dishes, condiments, and tableware. They were created to allow diners to serve themselves without domestic servants present, ensuring private conversation during dining.

George III dumbwaiters were predominantly crafted from dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany timber. Construction features hand-turned central support columns, hand-shaped tripod bases, dish-moulded circular trays, and brass cup castors for mobility.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display historic timber shrinkage causing slightly oval tray profiles, hand-cut joinery underneath, and natural patination across the turned column. Original iron fittings, hand-cut brass castors, and period hand-planed underside surfaces are key indicators.

A two-tier dumbwaiter functions as a distinct occasional table beside an armchair or sofa. The graduated circular trays also serve as a tiered display for art books, potted botanical plants, or curated barware.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish along the grain twice yearly. Position the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement or surface fading.
