Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pier tables and console tables were originally designed during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries to be placed against the pier wall between windows. They served as structural decorative features, frequently positioned beneath tall pier glasses or mirrors to reflect light back into grand reception rooms.

Regency console tables were typically constructed using dense, high-grade timbers such as West Indian mahogany, rosewood, or oak, often finished with flame mahogany veneers. Tops were frequently fashioned from imported white Carrera or dark fossilised marble, resting on hand-carved solid timber frames.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-craftsmanship, including hand-cut dovetail or mortise and tenon joinery, slight irregularities in hand-carved motifs, and secondary woods like pine or oak used for concealed structural elements. The undersides and backs often retain original tool marks and aged oxidation.

A classic console table functions well in an entryway, hallway, or narrow reception space. To integrate it into a modern scheme, balance the rich timber tones by pairing the table with minimalist artwork above, contemporary ceramic table lamps, or structured botanicals.

Clean the marble top using a soft, damp cloth and pH-neutral soap, avoiding acidic cleaners which etch natural stone. Maintain the mahogany frame by regularly dusting with a lint-free cloth and applying a pure beeswax polish along the wood grain once or twice a year to protect the timber finish.
