Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Ersari carpet is a traditional hand-woven textile created by the Ersari sub-tribe of the Turkmen people, historically located along the Amu Darya river basin in Northern Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. These carpets are distinguished by their deep red or terracotta ground colours and repeating geometric octagonal motifs, commonly known as gols.

Ersari carpets are traditionally crafted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the warp/weft foundations. The wool is dyed using natural vegetable dyes, such as madder for red hues, and knotted using asymmetrical (Persian) knots to create a dense, durable weave designed to withstand heavy daily use.

Authentic antique Ersari pieces feature soft variations in natural dye colour (known as abrash), flexible hand-knotted backings with irregular pile tension, and traditional geometric iconography rather than modern synthetic patterns. The presence of octagonal elephant foot gols arranged in uniform rows is a primary hallmark of the style.

A large red Afghan carpet serves as an anchoring element in a room, pairing well with neutral upholstery, natural timber furniture, and modern leather seating. The rich terracotta tones add depth to contemporary minimalist interiors while complementing the architectural details of period properties.

Regular maintenance requires gentle vacuuming without a rotating brush attachment to prevent pulling the pile fibres. Spills should be blotted immediately with a dry cloth, and professional cleaning by a specialist oriental rug conservator is recommended every few years to preserve the wool and dyes.
