Hi

I have for sale a stunning oak eight-day long case clock made by John Packer of reading listed as working from 1780.

This clock I would date to around 1790s.

This clock is offered for sale fully restored around two months ago, the case has been cut and polished, and the movement fully rebuilt with the new line, a stunning clock ready to see the next 100 years of events unfold.

Around Christmas time and the new year a grandfather clock seems to be very fitting sounding in the new year as it has for the last 135 years.

The Case

The case is in English oak with an opening front door she stands 224cm high (to the top of the finale) x 44cm at the widest point at the base with a depth of 22cm it is in very good original condition well waxed and loved over the years with the locks and keys plus glass in the hood sides so a little different.

It is a very nice-looking piece of furniture that would grace any home and as I mentioned just cut and polished.

The Dial

The dial is in very good original condition signed Packer of Reading.

The Movement

The movement is eight-day time and strike, which strikes the hours on each hour.

The movement is a mega-heavy thick-plated movement of top quality.

This movement was cleaned hand polished then new lines added oiled tested so runs great for eight days striking the hours with a full working date wheel, the hands are solid blued steel and in original condition.

Overall a beautiful clock quite rare in this original condition with the famous maker that looks stunning in the hallway a genuine early long case clock.

The photographs do not do this clock any justice it looks better in the flesh you will not be disappointed.

I purchased this clock from the last owners so fresh to the market after 38 years, and has the original keys.
