Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mid-19th century Victorian desks are characterised by solid mahogany or walnut construction, functional storage drawers, and classical turned or reeded legs. They frequently incorporated elevated top galleries or superstructures designed to organise correspondence and stationery.

Craftspeople predominantly utilised solid mahogany and rich mahogany veneers over softwood frames, secured with hand-cut dovetail joints. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak were used for internal drawer linings, accompanied by cast brass castors and iron lock mechanisms.

Genuine mid-19th century pieces display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, minor uneven shrinkage across wide solid wood surfaces, and original operational wear around handles. Keyholes typically feature stamped or cast brass escutcheons, and drawer bottoms run front-to-back.

An antique mahogany desk serves as a functional focal point within a contemporary home office, library, or living space. Pairing the deep wood tones with modern task lighting and streamlined seating creates an engaging, layered aesthetic.

Position the timber away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent warping and wood movement. Dust surfaces regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice per year to maintain the natural finish.
