Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A nineteenth-century mahogany pedestal sideboard is characterised by twin pedestal cupboards flanking a central open kneehole or recessed section, often topped with a central frieze drawer and a raised gallery or upstand. Crafted primarily from solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, these pieces provided both grand storage and serving surfaces in formal dining spaces.

These sideboards were predominantly constructed using dense mahogany for structural frames and drawer fronts, overlaid with flame mahogany veneers for decorative figure. Secondary timbers inside drawers and back panels typically included pine, oak, or poplar, assembled using traditional hand-cut joinery.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, uneven tool marks on unpolished rear surfaces, and natural wood oxidation creating a deep patina. Original brass lock plates, period-correct hinges, and signs of slight wood movement or shrinkage around veneer borders also indicate genuine period construction.

Place the sideboard along a main wall in a dining room, hallway, or living space to serve as a grounding focal point. Contrast its rich timber tones against neutral or bold contemporary wall colours, and style the surface with contemporary ceramics, minimalist lamps, or modern artwork.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the item away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent veneer cracking or finish fading.
