Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Convex mirrors feature curved glass surfaces that bow outwards, offering a wide-angle field of view. Popularised during the late Georgian and Regency periods, these mirrors were traditionally placed in dining rooms to allow domestic staff to observe the room without disrupting guests.

Traditional pieces were constructed using hand-carved wood covered in gessoa smooth plaster mixtureand layered with micro-thin gold leaf using water gilding techniques. The mirror plate itself was crafted from blown glass that was convexly formed and silvered using mercury or silver nitrate backing.

Authentic Regency mirrors typically exhibit hand-carved wooden backings with visible joinery, natural oxidisation on the mirror backing, and subtle wear to the gold leaf revealing red or yellow clay bole beneath. Modern reproductions often use moulded resin, lighter synthetic gilding, and uniform factory-made backs.

Position the mirror centrally above a fireplace mantel, hallway console, or sideboard to serve as a focal point. Contrast its metallic texture against dark painted walls or place it opposite a light source to maximise illumination and depth in compact spaces.

Dust the gilded frame gently using a soft, dry ostrich feather duster or dry camel-hair brush, avoiding liquid cleaners which dissolve traditional gesso and water gilding. The glass mirror plate should be cleaned by spraying glass cleaner directly onto a cloth rather than the mirror itself to prevent moisture seepage behind the frame.
