Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 1830s during the reign of King William IV, work tables were designed for domestic leisure activities such as needlework, embroidery, and correspondence. They represent a transition between the light, classical proportions of the Regency period and the heavier, more ornate forms of the Victorian era.

These tables were typically crafted from premium hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and walnut. The structural framework often featured fine veneers, brass hardware fittings, and pleated silk or fabric work pouches for storing embroidery materials.

Authentic pieces characteristic of the 1830s feature bold turned pedestals, heavy quadform concaved bases, scroll or lion paw feet, and hand-dovetailed drawer construction. The presence of an original pull-out fabric basket frame beneath the drawer frieze is also a key indicator.

Due to their compact footprint and finished sides, these tables function exceptionally well as occasional side tables beside an armchair, statement hallway accent pieces, or unique bedside tables in period and eclectic interiors.

Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the timber from warping or splitting. Regularly apply a quality beeswax polish along the grain to protect the timber, and clean any textile work pouches using a soft, dry brush.
