Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chests of drawers from the late 17th century marked a transition from heavy joined oak to decorative walnut construction. They are typically defined by geometric fielded drawer panels, fine walnut veneers, turned bun feet, and brass teardrop or drop handles.

These pieces usually feature a carcass built from solid oak or pine, veneered with figured walnut cut by hand. Drawers were constructed with coarse dovetail joints, thick side runners, and held together using traditional animal glues.

Authentic period chests exhibit hand-planed drawer bottoms and back panels, hand-cut dovetails with thick proportions, single-pin joints, uneven saw marks on unseen surfaces, and natural wear along the drawer runners.

Period walnut furniture pairs effectively with neutral plaster walls, contemporary artwork, and modern brass lighting. The rich grain and dark tone provide a grounding element within contrasting minimalist modern spaces.

Apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the original patination. Keep the item away from direct sunlight and modern heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting.
