We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II walnut bureau is a British writing cabinet dating from approximately 1727 to 1760. It typically features a sloping fall-front lid covering an arrangement of small drawers and pigeonholes, situated above a series of wide storage drawers.

These bureaus were constructed primarily using walnut veneers laid over oak or pine carcases, often featuring herringbone or feather crossbanding. Hardware traditionally consists of cast brass handles, keyhole escutcheons, and steel lock mechanisms.

Authentic period bureaus display hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings with grain running front-to-back, and natural age-related patination on the veneer. Original brassware usually leaves distinct ghost marks or wear patterns on the drawer fronts.

A walnut bureau works well as a compact home office desk in a living room, hallway, or study. Placing contemporary lighting, artwork, or ceramics nearby creates a balanced contrast between traditional craft and modern design.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain moisture in the veneer. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer movement and fading.
