Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian writing bureau is a piece of case furniture originating from the 18th or early 19th century, featuring a sloping hinged lid that opens to reveal an interior writing surface and small storage compartments, resting atop a series of full-width drawers.

Georgian bureaux were primarily constructed from solid and veneered timbers such as mahogany, walnut, or oak. Key structural details include hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, brass swan-neck handles, and decorative satinwood crossbanding or stringing inlays.

Authentic Georgian bureaux exhibit indicators of age such as hand-sawn wood marks on cabinet backs, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer sides, original brass hardware with natural surface patination, and bracket feet secured with period-appropriate glue blocks.

An antique mahogany bureau can be integrated into a contemporary space by placing it as a focal statement piece in a study, hallway, or living room, paired with modern minimalist artwork or a clean-lined desk lamp to create a balanced contrast between period craftsmanship and modern design.

To preserve mahogany furniture, place it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage or fading. Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain.
