A fine lidded quart tankard made of Old Sheffield Plate. Bearing no makers marks but dating to c1780. With a tall elegant shape and a wooden base.

In good condition with one minor ding to the body and a small solder mark to the handle. With slight copper bleed to the raised edges.

Weight approx 740g.

Height approx 22.5cm

Span approx 16.5cm.

Old Sheffield Plate is a metalworking process discovered in 1742 by Thomas Boulsover, where a sheet of silver is fused onto a copper ingot before being rolled into sheets. This method was widely used between approximately 1750 and 1840 for manufacturing hollowware and tableware before electroplating replaced it.
