Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian burr walnut card table is a 19th-century piece of gaming furniture constructed with a swivel fold-over top that reveals a playing surface. These tables feature highly figured burr walnut veneers, carved central pedestals, and serpentine silhouettes to double as hall or console tables when closed.

Victorian card tables were constructed using solid hardwood frames overlaid with premium burr walnut or mahogany veneers. Interior playing surfaces were lined with felt, baize, or leather, complemented by steel hinges and cast-iron or brass castors.

Authentic Victorian examples display hand-cut joinery, original brass hinges, and a swivel mechanism over a small interior compartment designed for card storage. The presence of carved pedestal supports and original brass castors also helps verify period authenticity.

Position the closed table against an entryway wall or inside an empty corner to act as a console for displaying lighting or decorative objects. The fold-over top can be opened during social gatherings to serve as an active gaming or serving area.

Maintain burr walnut by positioning it away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood movement or veneer lifting. Dust gently using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly to protect the timber and retain its lustre.
