Pair of tribeswoman figures. Earthy biscuit ground colour.

All ends and sides secured. Even pile. Hand washed & de-dusted,

Antique Kurdish runners originate from the Northwestern region of Persia and are recognised for their thick woollen pile, sturdy construction, and bold geometric ornamentation. They frequently feature central pole medallions, abstract animal or human figures, and rich natural dye colour palettes.

Traditional Kurdish weavers utilised hand-spun local sheep wool for both the pile and the foundation warp and weft. Dyes were derived from natural organic sources, including madder root, indigo, walnut husks, and pomegranate rinds.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-knotted wool construction with slight irregularities in the weave and pattern typical of nomadic and village craft. The reverse side shows clear knot structure, and natural colour variations known as abrash are often visible throughout the field.
