Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table with drawers, originating in the early eighteenth century in Britain and North America. Originally designed as a dressing table or side table, it typically features a shallow upper drawer above smaller side drawers, supported by shaped legs.

Authentic period lowboys are typically constructed using solid or veneered walnut, frequently displaying figured burl or feather-banded inlay. Dovetailed drawer joints, oak secondary timbers, and hand-cast brass drop handles with backplates are standard construction elements of the period.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn wood marks, natural oxidisation on drawer interiors, and period-correct dovetail joints. Look for original cabriole legs terminating in pad or ball-and-claw feet, as well as wear patterns consistent with age around the apron and feet.

A walnut lowboy functions well as an entryway console, an occasional side table in a living area, or a vanity in a bedroom setting. Its compact footprint allows it to contrast effectively against modern minimalist backdrop walls or complement classic traditional schemes.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage, veneer lifting, and uneven colour bleaching.
