Its About Time has dated this Mahogany Fusee Wall Clock to the 1880s.
The clock is nicely balanced with a wide surround and 8" cream enamel dial, brass bezel and convex glass cover. A substantial and fine quality twin chain fusee movement, bell striking on the hour, which is unusual for a clock like this and it will run for 8 days on a full wind.
An attractive clock, and quite rare! J.W.Benson was a particularly respected watch and clockmakers in London in the mid-late 19th century, being one of very few early wristwatch houses that was English, rather than Swiss. Established in 1847, the business grew and continued to make and sell clocks and watches until the second world war, when their factory was bombed. No longer producing clocks, they remained a prominent retailer of timepieces and jewellery in London well into the 20th century. This clock would've been made circa 1880.
