Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Fold-over card tables became popular during the 18th century across Britain and Europe to accommodate popular social card games. Designed with hinged tops, they functioned as narrow side tables when closed and opened into square or rectangular gaming surfaces supported by gate legs or rotating mechanisms.

Craftsmen typically constructed these tables using dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, often applying burr or figure-grained veneers to the top. Internal frames frequently utilised secondary woods like pine or oak, with playing surfaces lined in baize fabric or polished timber.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved cabriole legs terminating in pad or claw-and-ball feet, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers or frames, and early iron or brass hinges. The timber should show natural oxidisation, hand-planed underside marks, and uneven wear consistent with age.

When folded closed, a games table functions as an accent console table in a hallway, drawing room alcove, or behind a sofa. Placed under a wall mirror or lamp, it provides surface area for decorative displays while retaining its secondary function as a gaming surface.

Position the furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer lifting. Regular dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and occasional application of natural beeswax polish will preserve the timber moisture and natural finish.
