Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French card tables grew in popularity during the 18th century Louis XV period, created specifically to accommodate social parlour games. Characterised by flowing curves, cabriole legs, and serpentine aprons, these tables were designed to be both portable and aesthetically refined.

These tables are traditionally constructed from solid or veneered hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or kingwood. The playing surface is typically inset with wool baize or felt to protect game pieces, whilst drawers are fitted with brass hardware and hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved cabriole legs, natural wear and oxidation on the underside of the frame, and traditional hand-dovetailed drawer construction. Look for original patination on the walnut timber and evidence of hand-tooling on the interior frame.

A card table can be placed in an empty corner, bay window, or living area as an occasional centrepiece. Its compact dimensions make it suitable for secondary seating zones, styled with a table lamp, books, or left clear for active board games.

Apply a clear beeswax polish to the walnut timber annually to preserve the patination and protect against drying. The baize surface should be brushed gently with a soft cloth to remove dust and kept away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
