Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A kingwood vitrine is a specialised display cabinet crafted in France during the 19th century, featuring glass panels and exotic wood veneers. Typically designed in the Louis XV or Louis XVI revival styles, these pieces were created to store and showcase valuable decorative objects.

These cabinets were predominantly constructed using secondary woods such as oak or pine, veneered with cut kingwood arranged in matching parquet patterns. Cast bronze or brass mounts, known as ormolu, were applied to edges and feet, alongside fitted glass panels and shelves.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut veneers, cast gilt-metal mounts attached with hand-threaded screws, and hand-dovetailed drawer construction. Examining the back panel for hand-sawn timber and inspecting the gilding for natural age-related oxidisation can help verify age.

Place the cabinet against a neutral or dark backdrop to allow the intricate wood grain and brass accents to stand out. Use the interior shelves to hold minimal ceramic pieces, books, or glassware to create a balanced contrast with contemporary decor.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfiber cloth and keeping the piece away from direct sunlight or heat sources. The brass mounts should be gently wiped clean without abrasive metal polishes, which can strip protective patinas or damage adjacent wood veneers.
