Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bonheur de jour is a type of small, lightweight writing desk featuring a raised superstructure or cabinet at the back of the writing surface, typically containing small drawers, cupboards, or open pigeonholes. Originally introduced in eighteenth-century France for domestic correspondence, the form remained popular through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Edwardian furniture-makers frequently utilised West Indian satinwood for its fine grain and golden tone, often combining it with boxwood or ebony stringing and mahogany crossbanding. Construction typically involved hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, mortise and tenon leg joints, and solid brass hardware fittings.

Authentic Edwardian desks demonstrate precise joinery, original brass locks or drop handles, smooth drawer linings made from oak or mahogany, and natural age-related patination on the finish. Inlaid decorative panels and tapered legs ending in spade feet are characteristic design indicators of this era.

A bonheur de jour functions effectively as an occasional writing table in a hallway, bedroom, or living room alcove. Modern styling often integrates the piece alongside contemporary table lamps, minimal stationery, or framed artwork to contrast classical proportions with clean lines.

Maintain satinwood by dusting regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and applying a thin coat of natural beeswax polish annually to preserve the timber finish. Avoid placing the item in direct sunlight or near radiator heat sources to prevent veneer lifting or surface fading.
