1926 Sterling Silver Jewellery or Rings Box

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Beeches Vintage
Description

This is a very pretty Antique Silver Jewellery or Rings Box from the early 1900s. It’s a larger size rings box and it would be perfect for storing small items of jewellery in.

It comes in a gift bag and it would be a fantastic and very special present.

It was made by well known Silversmiths Mappin & Webb and it was Hallmarked in Birmingham in 1911.

The box is made of Sterling Silver and has a very pretty engineered pattern on the lid with a blank circular cartouche in the centre. It stands on three feet. The hinge works well and the lid lifts to show an interior with a blue material lining in the base and a gilded inner lid.

The Silver is shiny with a little tarnish. There’s a couple of small dints in the lid. One lid is bent more than the others so the box is very slightly lopsided when it is on a surface.

One leg has a very small gap at the top where it attaches to the base and the back leg has been repaired although this isn’t obvious at all. The material inside is a little worn in places and the material base on the bottom of the box has a small tear. This has been taken into account when pricing.

It weighs 155g. It measures 8.2cm diameter (3 1/4 inches). The height is 5.1cm (2 inches).

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 1920s, silver dressing table accessories became central elements of vanity sets, reflecting the sleek geometric aesthetics of the Art Deco movement. Compact boxes were designed specifically to hold rings, cufflinks, and small trinkets on dressing tables.

These boxes are typically crafted from sterling silver (925 fineness) and often feature machine-engraved engine turning, hand-soldered cabriole feet, hinged lids, and soft velvet or silk fabric linings to protect delicate items.

Authentic British sterling silver items feature a full set of official assay hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the lion passant mark for silver purity, a town mark, a makers mark, and a specific date letter code.

Position the box on a vanity top, bedside table, or bathroom counter as a refined accent piece. Pairing silver accessories with natural stone surfaces or dark timber creates a balanced contrast in modern rooms.

Tarnish can be removed by polishing gently with a specialised silver polishing cloth. Avoid immersing lined boxes in water or using harsh chemical solvents that could damage delicate interiors or cause oxidisation.
