Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, these silver boxes feature embossed cherub motifs inspired by Sir Joshua Reynolds 1787 painting A Childs Portrait in Different Views. They were crafted as decorative dressing table caskets for storing small trinkets or jewellery.

These items were crafted from sterling silver, frequently featuring repousse or chase-embossed relief decoration on the lid and cast cabriole legs. The interiors were often fitted with fabric linings such as silk or velvet to protect contents from abrasion.

Authentic British pieces carry complete sets of official hallmarks, including the town mark, the sterling lion passant, a date letter, and a registered makers mark. High-grade repousse work and crisp chasing details on the relief design further distinguish original period pieces from later cast reproductions.

Position the casket on a bedroom dressing table, bedside table, or bathroom vanity surface to hold daily accessories. Its polished metallic finish offers tonal contrast alongside dark timber, polished marble, or contemporary neutral linens.

Buff periodically with a dry, soft cotton cloth and a specialized silver polishing paste, avoiding aggressive liquid dips that strip natural oxidisation from low-relief areas. Keep the piece in a low-humidity environment to minimise surface tarnishing.
