Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed in France during the early nineteenth century by Abraham-Louis Breguet, carriage clocks were designed as portable timepieces for travellers. They typically feature sturdy brass cases, glass panels, and a folding top handle for ease of transport.

Carriage clocks are primarily constructed from cast or stamped brass, which is often gilded or silvered, fitted with thick bevelled glass panels to reveal the interior mechanical movement.

Authentic pieces from this period usually possess a platform escapement visible through the top glass, hand-engraved or chiseled brass casing, and maker or serial marks stamped on the back plate.

Positioning a small brass carriage clock on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or desk creates a refined focal point, pairing well with contemporary literature or traditional dark wood furnishings.

Dust the brass case using a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical polishes that could strip original gilding, and ensure the mechanical movement is serviced by a professional horologist every few years.
