Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A centre table is a freestanding item of furniture designed to be viewed from all sides, typically placed in the middle of a hallway, foyer, or drawing room. Popularised in 19th-century France, these tables often feature classical Neoclassical or Louis XVI motifs, decorative metal mounts, and polished marble tops.

These tables were traditionally constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, topped with fitted marble slabs featuring natural veining. Decorative accents often included chased ormolu (gilt-bronze) mounts, swags, and cast metal sabots on the legs.

Authentic 19th-century pieces feature hand-cut joinery, hand-chased bronze mounts displaying natural surface oxidisation, and original marble slabs with minor irregularities beneath. Inspecting the underside for hand-sawn timber marks and period maker stamps can further confirm authenticity.

Position the table in an entryway or central living space as a architectural anchor, layering it with ceramic vessels, books, or small sculptures. The rich grain of mahogany and marble provides structure when set against modern neutral walls.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and clean marble tops immediately with pH-neutral solutions to prevent etching. Protect mahogany timber with high-grade beeswax polish annually, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources.
