An Unusually Large Empire Gueridon. In flame mahogany, the base with three cabriole supports terminating in lions paw feet and with ormolu mounts all resting on a platform base. The table is topped with a dished Paloma marble and the whole is in very good condition. 750mm high and 1000mm diameter. French Circa 1840.

French Empire furniture emerged during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte in the early nineteenth century. It is characterized by monumental forms, classical Roman and Egyptian motifs, dark native or imported hardwoods such as mahogany, and polished gilt-bronze mounts.
