Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Furniture from this period often utilised flame mahogany veneers, cut from the fork of the mahogany tree where the trunk branches. This created a dramatic, wave-like pattern resembling flames, which was applied to drawer fronts and door panels in Regency and Victorian cabinet making.

Cabinet makers typically built the main framework from solid timber or pine, applying thin veneers of flame mahogany over the front surfaces. Internal drawers were joined using hand-cut dovetails, with secondary woods such as pine, oak, or cedar used for drawer linings.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved dovetail joints that show slight irregularities, original brass hardware with historical oxidisation, and timber shrinkage across the backboards. The presence of hand-sawn secondary timber inside the drawer carcasses also indicates period construction.

Place the piece against modern painted walls in sage, navy, or off-white to create a striking contrast between historical wood tones and contemporary colours. Layer the top with contemporary table lamps, abstract artwork, or ceramic vessels to balance classical and modern elements.

Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the timber from warping or fading. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft cotton cloth, buffing along the grain to preserve the patination.
