Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian brass candlesticks are characterised by lathe-turned stems featuring geometric knops, balusters, or beehive motifs, resting on square, circular, or octagonal cast bases. Produced primarily in metalworking hubs like Birmingham, they reflect nineteenth-century manufacturing methods and classical design influences.

These pieces were typically cast from yellow brass alloy using two-part sand moulds or core-casting techniques. The sections were turned on a lathe to finish the decorative rings and knops, then joined using threaded iron rods or internal braze joints.

Authentic period examples often display seam lines from casting inside the stem, hand-cut thread rods, and natural wear or oxidisation on unpolished underside surfaces. Weight is another indicator, as nineteenth-century cast brass is generally heavier than modern thin-gauge reproductions.

Brass candlesticks can be arranged in pairs or grouped in odd numbers along a dining table, mantelpiece, or sideboard. Mixing varying heights alongside natural wood textures and dark painted backdrops accentuates the reflective quality of the polished metalwork.

Remove leftover wax by applying warm water or using a soft wooden scraper to prevent scratching the surface. Clean gently using a specialist brass polish and microfiber cloth, avoiding abrasive pads or harsh chemicals that strip patination.
