Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The William IV period, spanning from 1830 to 1837, marks a transition between Regency elegance and Victorian ornamentation. Furniture from this era is recognised by robust proportions, prominent scrollwork, reeded or spiral-turned legs, and the extensive use of flame mahogany veneers.

Sideboards of this period were primarily constructed from solid pine or oak carcases veneered with cuts of mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. Drawer linings were frequently made of oak or pine, joined with hand-cut dovetails, and fitted with solid brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand craftwork, including irregular hand-cut dovetails, original lock mechanisms, and uneven timber shrinkage on non-visible surfaces. Veneers on genuine period items are typically thicker than modern equivalents and exhibit natural oxidisation.

A dark mahogany sideboard pairs well with modern neutral plaster or mineral wall finishes to create a strong silhouette. Incorporating clean-lined contemporary artwork, understated ceramics, or modern table lamps creates balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, and colour fading.
