Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pedestal sideboard is a traditional dining room storage cabinet featuring a central surface or drawers flanked by two deep cupboard pedestals. Emerging in the late 18th and early 19th centuries during the Georgian and Regency periods, these pieces provided generous storage for tableware, linens, and serving vessels while presenting a flat top for food service.

High-quality 19th-century sideboards frequently feature solid oak or pine carcase construction faced with figure-matched flame mahogany veneers. Drawer linings are commonly crafted from solid pine or oak, accompanied by brass keyhole escutcheons, turned timber feet, and hand-dovetailed drawer joints.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-sawn construction elements, original hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, and natural variation across hand-cut timber veneers. Look for period details such as spindle galleries, carved backboard crestings, original lock plates, and natural aging inside the cupboard bases.

Balance the visual weight and deep timber tones of a pedestal sideboard by pairing it with light neutral wall colours, abstract modern artwork hung above, and minimalist lighting. Incorporate sculptural ceramic or glass vessels on the top surface to complement the traditional silhouette.

Dust the surface regularly with a clean, soft microfibre cloth following the direction of the wood grain. Protect the finish from direct sunlight, excessive humidity, and heat sources, applying a high-grade natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber patina.
