Description

A very good late 19th.Century Sheraton Revival fiddle back mahogany and inlaid Carlton House Desk. The top section centred by an inlaid hinged stationary compartment flanked by 2 banks of 2 bow fronted drawers with rosewood banding between boxwood stringing and topped with good quality brass galleries. The writing surface with a replaced hand dyed green leather which has blind and gold tooling set within a mahogany border with satinwood cross banding and boxwood and ebony stringing. The serpentine shaped front having a concave drawer flanked by 2 banks of 3 bow fronted and graduated drawers all having conforming rosewood banding and inlay with square tapering and line inlaid legs terminating in brass square cup casters. The sides have conforming rosewood banding and the whole stands on 8 legs with mahogany linings throughout and polished back for freestanding. Condition- Very good with 2 replaced handles and working locks and keys. Dimensions:- Height…38’’/ 96cm. Width…48’’/ 122cm. Depth…26.5’’/ 67.5cm. Kneehole Height…24’’/ 61cm.
