Fine Quality Georgian Mahogany Corner Cupboard

18th century
Description

A very fine quailty George III period mahogany hanging coner cupboard. The two doors each constructed with and arch-top fielded panels above two further fielded panels and flaked by canted side panels wth moulded cornice above and a shaped apron below with ogee feet.

Superb colour and patina and all in fine original condition, including brass hardware and painted interior. Interestingly the ogee feet at the front were always intended purely as decoration and not to stand on. There has never been a third foot at the back, suggesting it has always been hung.

Hanging corner cupboards are imensely parctical pieces of furniture with copius interiors yet taking up almost no space. This one is just is less that 49cms from the front to the point of the corner behind.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian mahogany corner cupboard is an eighteenth-century storage piece designed to fit into wall angles, frequently featuring architectural mouldings, flame mahogany veneers, and panelled doors.

These pieces were primarily crafted using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood, often detailed with brass H-hinges and steel locks.

Authentic period pieces display hand-sawn backboards, hand-cut joinery, cast brass hardware, and natural timber oxidisation on unpolished interior surfaces.

Positioning a dark mahogany corner cupboard against a light, neutral backdrop creates a focal point in a dining room or hallway while efficiently utilizing corner space.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish annually, keeping the object away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
