1910-1930 an Oil Lamp with Decorative Painted Bowl

1900 - 1920
Description

Circa 1910-1930 a tall oil lamp with a delicately painted peach coloured glass bowl and a beautifully shaped Art Nouveau brass base.

The lamp measures 67cm in height with the glass funnel included, and the base is approximately 20cm in diameter with the original iron weight underneath. The etched glass shade is 21cm across at the top and 19cm in height, and it is possible it may not be the original but it is from the same era.

The whole item is in good condition, and the words ENGLAND MADE is clearly visible on both wick handles.

Postage and packing for the UK mainland for two parcels is included in the price, and we will send the shade out separately to prevent damage. For outside areas or delivery abroad please contact us for a quote.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Lamps from the 1910 to 1930 period often combine Victorian functional elements with Art Nouveau floral motifs, featuring brass columns, glass reservoirs or fonts, and decorative glass chimneys or shades.

These lighting fixtures were typically constructed using cast or pressed brass for the base and burner mechanisms, paired with hand-painted or molded glass for the reservoir font and shade.

Authentic pieces generally feature turned or cast brass components, natural surface patination, glass fonts with hand-applied decoration, and functional wicks or burner assemblies stamped with manufacturer marks.

An antique lamp can be placed on a sideboard, console table, or mantelpiece as a decorative focal point, adding texture and historic character to modern or eclectic room schemes.

Glass components should be cleaned with mild soapy water using a non-abrasive cloth. Brass surfaces should be gently dusted, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip original surface patina.
