Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century mahogany writing table is a freestanding desk typically designed with frieze drawers, a leather-inset writing surface, and slender tapered or turned legs. Popular during the Regency and Victorian eras, these tables offered functional storage while serving as refined centrepieces for private libraries and study rooms.

These writing tables were primarily constructed from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often featuring boxwood or brass string inlay. The writing tops commonly incorporated hand-tooled leather, while drawers were assembled using hand-cut dovetail joints and fitted with solid brass handles.

Authentic 19th-century pieces usually exhibit signs of period craftsmanship, such as slightly irregular dovetail joints, original brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and authentic age wear on the leather surface. Inspecting the drawer linings for wood shrinkage and checking for original castors can also confirm age.

An antique writing table can serve as a functional home office desk or a console table in a spacious hallway. Pairing it with a modern task chair or a contemporary metallic lamp creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and minimalist modern design.

Maintain the mahogany framework by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year, wiping along the wood grain. Clean the leather inset with a lightly damp cloth and treat it periodically with a leather conditioner to prevent drying and cracking.
