Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian drop dial clock is a type of pendulum-driven wall clock featuring an extended lower casing, or drop trunk, designed to accommodate a longer pendulum length. Typically constructed with a circular or octagonal dial surround, these clocks were widely produced throughout the 19th century for both domestic and commercial use.

These clocks were primarily crafted using flame mahogany or oak veneers over pine or oak carcases. The movement components feature brass plates and steel arbours, while the dials were generally painted iron protected by a clear glass lens set in a brass bezel.

Authentic pieces generally feature a heavy cast brass bezel, a painted iron dial with hand-drawn Roman numerals, and a heavy brass fusee movement driven by a gut cord or steel chain. The timber case typically demonstrates hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged construction, and natural age-related patination.

A mahogany wall clock creates an intriguing focal point when mounted on a neutral painted wall or positioned within a narrow hallway. Its rich timber tones complement dark paint schemes, timber panelling, and traditional or eclectic gallery walls.

Keep the timber case away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer cracking or fading, wiping it regularly with a dry microfibre cloth. Horological movements require professional cleaning and lubrication by a qualified clockmaker every five to seven years.
