Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A drop-dial wall clock features a circular dial face set above a drop section that houses and protects the pendulum assembly. Originating in 19th-century Britain, these clocks were widely utilised in administrative offices, schools, and domestic hallways.

Traditional Victorian wall clocks were typically crafted with cases of solid mahogany or oak, accented with brass bezels and cast lead or brass pendulum bobs. The internal clockwork mechanisms were built using durable brass plates, steel arbors, and hand-cut gears.

Authentic period examples feature hand-painted dials, heavy brass bezels with glass covers, and carved side ears or scrollwork. Inspecting the interior reveals mechanical fusee or weight-driven movements, pegged joinery, and natural oxidisation on the brass hardware.

Mount the clock on a neutral background in a hallway or above a sideboard to showcase the rich timber tones and brass details. Pairing the dark wood case with understated modern furniture creates a balanced focal point within a contemporary scheme.

Position the clock away from direct heat sources and damp areas to prevent the timber from warping or splitting. Regularly dust the wooden case with a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax polish sparingly, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a professional horologist every five years.
