How do I use a partners desk?

A partners desk is designed for two people to sit opposite one another, utilising matching banks of drawers and writing space on each side. They work well placed in the centre of a room rather than against a wall. Ensure you measure the floor space carefully, as these desks require clearance chairs on both long sides to function correctly.

Are these desks truly double-sided?

Yes, true partners desks feature drawers, cupboards, or dummy drawer fronts arranged identically on both long sides. This allows simultaneous access from the front and back. Single-sided pedestal desks have drawers on one side only and a panelled kneehole reverse.

How do I care for the leather top?

The leather writing surface should be dusted gently with a dry cloth and treated periodically with appropriate leather balm or wax to prevent drying and cracking. Avoid using harsh household cleaners or excessive moisture. Keep the desk away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to preserve both the leather and the surrounding timber finish.

What is the difference between oak and mahogany?

Oak is a heavy, durable timber with a pronounced grain pattern, often seen in earlier vernacular and revival pieces. Mahogany offers a tighter, finer grain that takes a deep polish and allows for crisp carved details. Both timbers provide the structural strength required for large twin pedestal furniture.
