How do I choose the right size?

Consider the proportions of your room and measure your available floor space carefully before selecting a frame. Sizes range from single dormitory beds to super king dimensions. Check whether the bed uses standard modern mattress dimensions or requires custom sizing. Vintage frames often accommodate specific proportions that differ from contemporary standards.

Are iron and brass beds sturdy?

Metal frames constructed from iron and brass offer robust structural support for daily use. Their components lock or bolt together securely to ensure stability. Inspect the joints and fixings to confirm they remain tight and aligned. Quality metalwork resists bending and maintains its rigidity over decades of use.

How do I care for wooden finishes?

Maintain wooden surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying appropriate wax polish periodically. Avoid placing timber furniture in direct sunlight or near heat sources. Protect the finish from moisture by using coasters and mats. Gentle care preserves the natural grain and patina of oak, walnut, and mahogany.

Can antique beds take modern mattresses?

Many vintage frames accommodate modern mattresses, though some older sizes require careful measuring or custom bases. Slatted wooden bases can be introduced to support contemporary mattresses safely. Verify the internal dimensions of the bedstead before purchasing bedding. Adjustments to the interior supports allow older frames to function reliably in modern homes.
