What is a vintage liquor storage cabinet?

A vintage liquor storage cabinet is a piece of furniture specifically designed to hold bottles, decanters, and glassware. These pieces range from early wooden cellarettes to fitted Art Deco cocktail cabinets. They combine practical storage with decorative presence, often featuring internal mirrors, pull-out trays, and secure compartments for entertaining essentials.

How were cellarettes used historically?

Cellarettes were kept in dining rooms to hold wine bottles close to the table before meals. Servants would retrieve bottles from the locked chest as needed. Many featured lead linings or fitted dividers to keep bottles stable and cool during Georgian and Regency dinners.

Where should I place a cocktail cabinet?

A cocktail cabinet suits living rooms, dining spaces, or home bars where entertaining takes place. Their finished backs and decorative veneers allow them to stand freely. Ensure placement avoids direct sunlight to protect polished wood surfaces and delicate interior mirrors.

How do I distinguish Art Deco cabinets?

Art Deco cabinets typically date from the 1920s and 1930s, featuring symmetric geometric forms and figured burr walnut veneers. They often open to reveal mirrored mixing spaces. Earlier nineteenth-century pieces tend to use solid mahogany or rosewood with simpler, more traditional joinery.
