Where should I place a standard lamp?

These tall floor lamps suit corners of living rooms, studies, or hallways where they can provide ambient light without taking up table space. Their decorative painted columns also serve as visual focal points even when the light is switched off.

How do I care for lacquered wood?

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent dirt accumulation on the painted and lacquered finish. Avoid using harsh chemical polishes or placing the lamp in direct sunlight, which can fade the delicate Chinoiserie details over time.

Are original shades common?

Most surviving lamps have been re-shaded over the decades due to the fragile nature of vintage fabrics. Some listings include a fabric shade, while others provide an opportunity to select a complementary cover that suits your interior.

How do I date a painted lamp?

Dating relies on the turning style of the wooden standard, the type of electrical fittings present, and the characteristics of the lacquer work. Edwardian pieces often show specific turning profiles distinct from examples made in the nineteen-thirties.
