How do I wear a signet ring?

These rings are traditionally worn on the pinky finger or the ring finger of either hand, depending on personal preference and regional custom. Because of their substantial metal weight and low profile, they sit comfortably for daily use.

Were these rings only for men?

While many heavier signet and gypsy styles were historically worn by men, lighter and more decorative variations were designed for women. Proportions and stone sizes varied widely across the Victorian and Edwardian eras regardless of intended wearer.

What is a gypsy setting?

A gypsy setting embeds the diamond directly into the thick shoulder of the ring so the top sits flush with the metal. This technique protected the stone from catching on fabrics and suited the active lifestyle of the late nineteenth century.

How do I date these rings?

Dating relies on hallmarks stamped inside the band, the cut of the diamond, and the overarching style of the mounting. Victorian and Edwardian pieces show different engraving motifs and metal purities compared to mid-century examples.
