What is a vintage dark wood dresser?

A vintage dark wood dresser refers to storage furniture built from timbers such as mahogany and oak, encompassing chests of drawers, sideboards, and dresser bases. These pieces span periods from the 18th century through the Edwardian era and 1920s, showing styles like Georgian, Victorian, and Jacobean Revival.

How do I tell a Georgian dresser from a Victorian one?

Georgian pieces often display refined proportions, restrained classical lines, and Cuban mahogany timbers dating from the 18th century. Victorian and Edwardian items tend to incorporate heavier mouldings, distinct Revival styles, and sometimes machine-processed elements alongside traditional craftsmanship.

How do I care for dark wood furniture?

Keep dark wood furniture away from direct sunlight and steady heat sources to prevent the timber and veneers from drying out or splitting. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and occasionally apply appropriate natural waxes to maintain the finish of mahogany and oak surfaces.
