How should I hang a framed oil painting?

Secure wall fixings must match the substantial weight of wooden and gilt frames. Use appropriate picture hooks rated for the specific load of canvas and wood. Position the artwork away from direct sunlight and fluctuating heat sources to protect both the painted surface and the gilt wooden frame from environmental stress.

Are these works original or prints?

The category includes both unique hand-painted works and period printed media. Listings explicitly differentiate between original oil paintings, watercolours, pastels, and historical lithographs or advertisements. Examine the medium specified in the description to determine whether an item is a direct hand-rendered creation or a mechanical impression on paper.

How do I care for a gilt frame?

Dust the gilded wooden surface gently with a dry, soft brush to remove accumulated particles. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive cloths that can damage delicate gold leaf or gesso. Stable room humidity helps prevent the underlying wood from expanding or contracting, which preserves the structural integrity of antique mouldings.
