What are campaign drawers?

Campaign drawers are portable storage units built for military officers on active service during the nineteenth century. Their modular design allowed them to be split into manageable sections for travel. The use of dense timbers and recessed brass hardware ensured the furniture survived long sea voyages and rough overland transit.

Why are they made of teak?

Teak is a dense, oily timber that resists moisture, warping, and insect damage in tropical climates. This made it the material of choice for British colonial and Anglo-Indian furniture. The wood's natural stability protected the structural integrity of chests subjected to extreme temperature shifts.

How do two-part chests work?

Two-part chests are built as independent upper and lower cabinet sections that stack together. Iron or brass carrying handles are fitted to the sides of each section for lifting. The top section often fastens to the bottom half using internal brass bolts or brackets hidden behind the drawers.
