How do I choose the right size?

Measure your available wall space and ceiling height carefully before browsing the selection. Consider the depth of the shelves to ensure they accommodate your specific volumes. Open bookcases suit casual rooms, while glazed cabinets protect delicate bindings from dust and light.

What is a revolving bookcase?

A revolving bookcase is a compact, multi-sided wooden unit mounted on a concealed rotating base. This design allows users to access a large collection of books from a single seated position. They became particularly popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods for use beside desks or armchairs.

How do I care for antique wood?

Keep wooden furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the timber from drying and cracking. Apply a quality beeswax periodically to nourish the surface and maintain the natural lustre. Avoid using harsh chemical sprays, opting instead for a soft, dry cloth for routine dusting.

Are the shelves adjustable?

Many traditional bookcases feature fixed shelving, though several period examples include adjustable wooden supports. Inspect the interior uprights for slots or peg holes to determine if shelf heights can be altered. Adjustable shelves offer greater flexibility for storing books of varying heights.
