Where should a pier mirror hang?

These mirrors were originally scaled to hang on the narrow strip of wall situated between two windows, reflecting natural light deeper into the apartment. In modern rooms, they work equally well above a low sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table where their vertical proportions draw the eye upward.

What is a console and mirror set?

A console and mirror set pairs a wall-mounted looking glass with a matching narrow table placed directly beneath it against the wall. This matched arrangement creates a unified architectural focal point within a hallway or formal reception room.

How do I identify revival styles?

Revival pieces borrow decorative vocabulary from specific historical eras, such as the elaborate gilt carving of the Regency period or the walnut veneers associated with Queen Anne designs. Examining the construction methods, secondary woods, and hardware helps distinguish a nineteenth-century interpretation from an original eighteenth-century work.

Are these mirrors very heavy?

Because these frames are constructed from solid woods like mahogany, walnut, and pine combined with heavy glass and gesso, they possess substantial weight. Proper wall anchoring into structural studs is essential to support their bulk safely.
